Dr Graham Dietz, Lecturer in HR Management, Durham Business School
Dr Dietz is a Lecturer in HRM at Durham Business School, part of Durham University and one of the top 25 sch
ools in Europe in the latest Financial Times rankings. He teaches courses on organisational behaviour, strategic HRM, employee relations and change management. He is the Director of the school’s four MA programmes.
His research revolves around trust in the workplace: how it is built, maintained and enhanced, but also why it can be destroyed and how it can be repaired again. He has published in several leading international journals.
His particular interest with this event is the impact of ‘employer branding’ on employees’ trust in their employer, their bosses and their co-workers. Together with Professor Tom Redman (also at Durham) he has conducted some research on the impact of employer branding on key employees’ attitudes and behaviours, including commitment, engagement and intention to quit.
His other research interests include the impact of HRM on organisational performance.
Paul Smith Joined LV= in 2009 which was just setting out its journey of transformation. As an organisation of approximately 1900 people the company was loss making and lacking in strategic direction. Under the stewardship of Mike Rogers as CEO
the company has grown and transformed into an organisation of almost 6000 employees with 22 locations across the UK. This success has been confirmed in this year’s coveted achievement of Insurer of the Year Award. As Head of HR Paul is very proud to have been a part of this success which has seen LV= winning a number of awards for it’s Employer Branding and Employee proposition, Recruitment, Best Places to Work and being included in Tower Watson’s list of 10 High Potential Employer Benchmarks in it’s employee Engagement Survey database. The biggest challenges LV= faces is the next stage of transition form a rapid growth culture to one of sustainability and the significant Leadership challenges this presents.
Always keen on Marketing from an early age, with a strong passion for building Brands, Nimai Swaroop started off his career in the automotive design sector developing Marketing Strategies for new market entry across Europe and Asia Pacific before completing his MBA at Cardiff University where he further focused on Global Marketing. Nimai then moved to Centrica Plc, working for British Gas in various product marketing, strategy and portfolio roles and, subsequently the Telecomms division, heading their Product portfolio.
A change in career was around the corner in 2004 when Nimai joined Royal Dutch Shell, taking on responsibility to build their Employer Branding and Marketing capability for the Group to directly source candidates for Shell globally. Although the context and environment was different, the principles and approach to marketing remain similar to any business says Nimai. In July 2010, Nimai moved to RBS as their Global Head of Employer Branding and Marketing where his focus remains to build and strengthen the RBS Employer Brand, strengthen their marketing capability and shape the Direct Sourcing Strategy for the group.
In addition, as the Group Head of Diversity and Inclusion, his remit includes initiatives surrounding gender, disability and driving the organisation towards a working environment that is inclusive for all.
Carol Hondonga is Principal Adviser Talent Acquisition in the Talent and Learning Global Practice, based in London. In this role, Carol has accountability for the design of global talent attraction and acquisition strategies, systems and processes. She joined Rio Tinto in 2007 as HR Manager Africa for Technical Functions and then progressed to Recruitment and Talent Manager Africa she was instrumental in establishing the talent acquisition function. Both positions were based in Johannesburg, South Africa,. Prior to joining Rio Tinto Carol held various leadership positions within Organisation Learning and Development for international financial institutions operating in Africa. Carol holds a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Economics, Masters in Business Leadership and other professional qualifications.
Jo is an experienced & innovative Leader and Manager in the creative & technology sector. She believes that talent drives businesses, that by throwing away conventional scripts we can create environments that deliver behavioral innovation for business, the UK and the wider world. She wants to create legacies for businesses that deliver commercial, culturally and behavioral change.
Jo is Head of Resourcing and Talent Management for TalkTalk Group. She is responsible for driving an ambitious, innovative talent strategy Her ambition is to empower people to take responsibility for their learning to make TalkTalk a brighter place to work for everyone. Fulfilling theirs and others dreams and ambitions. She is currently creating a distinct employer brand proposition which plans for future business growth Driving a culture of innovation & risk which allows TalkTalk to be more opportunistic about where, how they develop their talent.
Prior to TalkTalk she was Head of Learning & 4Talent at Channel 4 where she was responsible for building an internal and external talent brand for the organization.
She started her career at the BBC where she worked for the Documentaries and Contemporary Factual Department across arrange of roles from Production Manger to Managing Editor.
Emily has over 7 years experience within Internal Communications, specifically within the areas of technology, HR and change. Delivering communications strategy to support a diverse, disparate and ever changing workforce of around 12,000 people at Virgin Media. In 2010 Emily moved to specialise in employee insight and engagement, developing Virgin Media’s award winning employee recognition system ‘Shout’, amongst other successful employee engagement programmes, as well as Virgin Media’s annual engagement survey. Passionate about social media and internal skill sharing, Emily is currently helping to develop an internal social collaboration tool. She has a degree in psychology and an ongoing interest in the subject.
